Vehicle electrification is a new concept that is gaining ground around the world. It can be implemented in a number of ways, and there is no strict definition of what an electric vehicle must be. At Northern Lights Energy, one of our most important recent initiatives has been to draw up a specification for this project. It covers the processes of vehicle electrification in urban centres, rural areas and even whole countries. It considers who will take part in these processes, what they will do and how they will do it.
NLE is working with an international team of experts to develop this specification for vehicle electrification and define what it involves and what part we will play in the processes. Here at Northern Lights Energy, we have identified the following issues as essential in the vehicle electrification process, although this is far from being a complete list:
-
build a network of recharging points and high-speed recharging stations
-
develop energy sales to EV owners
-
establish a payment system for EV owners
-
build up EV sales and services networks
-
promote and encourage the switch to EVs
-
create a natural secondary market for EVs
-
recycle EV components, e.g. batteries
-
educate people on the value of vehicle electrification
-
amend legislation and regulations to take into account electric vehicles
-
redefine and create educational material in the field of transport systems
Further information on these subjects will be displayed here on our website and on website for The Icelandic National EV Program, which will be the main arena for discussions about vehicle electrification in Iceland.
